World Cup Brazil - For the Love of Colour

I love anything positive that brings people of the world together like the Olympics and now the World Cup. Some of you may hate the football but I enjoy it as although teams play against each other, it unites people. Barriers like language, race or background are broken despite war, poverty and crime. We all sing, cheer and celebrate for our love of football, it is infectious.

United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan said of the World Cup:
"As the only game in the world that is played in every country by people of every race and religion."

Art also brings people together, every 4 years Brazilians paint their streets for the love of football. This year they are sharing it with the world.

With the World Cup starting today watch a country brought to life by its people and explore the colourful streets of Brazil in this short video to infect the non football fans amongst you!

Rainbow VW Beetle Print

It is common knowledge that I love the classic VW Beetle. A car full of personality, which is why I set my hand sketched and computer generated picture against a swirly rainbow background. It also seems that many others like this print too as it is fun and colourful. So I have created more prints ready for purchase.

It's HoliThe Indian festival of colour which marks the coming of Spring. It's tradition to light bonfires and roast grains, popcorn, coconut and chickpeas. Holi is a colourful festival, it's a time for fun, dancing and singing. People celebrate by going into the streets and throwing coloured powder and paints at each other.

Hola Mahalla
Sikhs also celebrate where in the Punjab it's known as "Hola Mahalla" or the festival of Nihangs. Guru Gobind Singh started the festival for Sikhs to practice their military exercise and practice battles. Sikhs celebrate through martial arts led by Gurdwara nishan sahibs.

History of Holi
It's believed that the festival's origin comes from Krishna who was a mischievous boy that threw coloured water over the milkmaids. The fun and jokes developed into Holi, the tradition of lighting bonfires symbolises good overcoming evil and is about the king's son prince Prahlad. His auntie Holika was immune from fire and tricked her nephew Prahlad into sitting on her lap in a bonfire to kill him. But as she was using her powers for evil, her plan failed, instead the flames killed Holika and Prahlab was unharmed. Today in some parts of India effigies of Holika are burned and the bonfires ashes are thought to bring good luck.

Volkswagen Beetle Inspired Art

I really love the old Volkswagen Beetles & Camper vans iconic of 1960's. They're uniquefull of character & are one of the most photographed cars in the world. They symbolise what the sixties is all about - love, freedom, travel, fun & adventure. That's why I love them, plus they look good too! They've been the inspiration for my VW Beetle greeting cards. I've also created a hand painted print for the Beetle lovers!

My VW Beetle cards are inspired from my love of 1960's art & culture & VW Beetles & camper vans. My favourite design is the rainbow background one, the colours also reflect the 60's era.

1960's Inspired Mini Greeting Cards

As well as my Indian inspired mini greeting cards with matching coloured envelopes I'm also inspired by 1960's art & culture - in particular the bright coloured shapes, the VW Beetle & Campervan & generally as the decade that represents love. My cards can be used for any occasion & I've been told are really cute! I plan to open an online shop soon to sell my cards, prints & paintings. Here are some of my 60's inspired designs which have a bit of a whimsical feel which I love

I love 1960's culture & so created Beetle inspired designs. I had a few ideas & couldn't decide which one to use so created a few versions based on the same Beetle. Though the rainbow background one's my favourite as I love colours & rainbows & think it reflects the 60's.
