Children's Halloween Spider Project

Halloween is not far away, so why not keep the kids busy with this easy Halloween spider project, great for parties or to decorate the house with. This is copyright material taken from the site: http://crafts.kaboose.com

Sparkling Spiders
By: Amanda Formaro
Difficulty: Average
Age: 7 & up

What you'll need:
  • Styrofoam ball about 4" in diameter
  • Purple acrylic paint
  • Sponge applicator
  • 2 large wiggle eyes
  • Hot glue
  • 9 black chenille sticks
  • Colourful craft gems OR purple sequins & sequin pics

How to make it:
  1. Use the sponge applicator to paint the Styrofoam ball and allow to dry.
  2. Use 8 of the chenille sticks for legs by bending the bottom of each one into a foot, about 1” long. Bend at the “knee” about halfway up the stick.
  3. When the ball is dry, insert the 4 chenille sticks into each side of the body.
  4. Cut the last chenille stick in half and then cut one of those halves in half again. Bend the quartered chenille stick to create a “feeler” about ½” long and place one on either side of the face (on either side of where the mouth would be).
  5. Hot glue the wiggle eyes onto the spider’s face.
  6. Decorate the spider’s back with purple sequins, securing them in place with sequin pins. Younger children can glue craft gems to the back instead.
  7. Adjust the legs so that the spider stands on its own.
Tips:
  • Sequin pins are tiny and can be hard for younger children to manipulate. Use craft gems as an alternative.
  • Sponge applicators can be found by the paintbrushes in any craft store or at building supply stores as they are commonly used for applying stains and varnishes.
  • Styrofoam is very porous and can take a little while to dry. This is also a good time to cut and bend the chenille sticks.

London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Inspiration

I get really inspired by events like the London Paralympic and Olympics, they really do "Inspire a generation."

www.olympics.time.com/
Nearly 27m people watched the Olympic opening ceremony making it one of the most watched programmes in history! It's fair to describe The Games as "the greatest show on earth."

Performers carry umbrellas during the Opening Ceremony
The hundreds of performers create a sea of umbrellas. Image from:
www.olympics.time.com/
The ceremonies are a great way to celebrate everything The Games are about. From British history and texts from Shakespeare, to flying performers, fireworks and also Stephen Hawking who said the Paralympic Games is about transforming our perception of the world

The London Paralympic opening ceremony was set to the theme of enlightenment and offers a more deeper kind of inspiration. What inspires me is the story behind each athlete, they serve as an inspiration to us all. Some are disabled from birth, others have suffered terrible accidents, some the victims of terrorist attacks and others ex-service military men and woman, yet they stay determined to achieve what they want.

I've enjoyed watching The Games, getting inspired and also being able to share the wonderful journeys of the athletes. I'm sure the closing ceremony "The Festival of Flame" will be just as inspiring for me and many others around the world!!

I'd like to share the words spoken by professor Stephen Hawking at the opening ceremony:

"What is important is that we have the ability to create. This creativity can take many forms from physical achievement to theoretical physics. However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at."

"The Games provide an opportunity for athletes to excel, to stretch themselves and become outstanding in their field. So let us together celebrate excellence, friendship and respect. Good luck to all."

My Week & London Olympics Opening ceremony

Firstly, how good was the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics? I love events like this and the Jubilee in the world as it really brings people together. A great British summer huh? Gutted I missed out at being 1 of the volunteers!! Things in my life at the time of the application process meant that by the time I applied, places were few & competition was fierce. Gutted!

Also this week, I bumped into 3 people I haven't seen in years from school, work and 1 locally - nice when life throws good surprises at me! Also took some different photos - always fun, always a bonus! Met some inspiring arty creative people like myself at work and then hopefully might land a new lead - Exciting!

SOMETHING INSPIRING
When I was helping a guy he said "Thank you & keep smiling. We're only born with 1 heart so keep showing your heart. Think how much better the world would be - it'd be a much nicer place - Thanks."

A nice guy, a nice chat & true words, we could all listen to this - so COME ON WORLD !!

My Graphic Design Portfolio

My Photo
Hello I'm Sharon Galsinh, a freelance artist, photographer and graphic designer with a passion for creativity. I love capturing and expressing what I love about the world through the arts. It allows me to reach thousands of people from a busy corridor, other cities & even on a double decker bus and train, exciting!

I'm really passionate about protecting the environment & supporting Greenpeace & WWF. So I really enjoyed creating this Greenpeace newsletter with masthead.
I'm skilled in using graphic design and photography software which enables me to create modern, professional designs. I have the ability to design and create posters, newsletters, business cards, DVD covers, leaflets, brochures and much more as well as graphics and photography to fit any brief for any project to a strict deadline.

Working at Liverpool based National Youth Advocacy Service gave me the opportunity to work on a range of projects including the Young Parents Support Project. I designed the advertising campaign with posters and folding leaflets that were displayed and distributed in Liverpool and north-west England.
My poster advertising Peter Pan showing at Birmingham's Repertory Theatre during Christmas.
Flick through a selection of my designs and if you have a brand that you'd like to establish, a project that you need to further develop or advertising to help with the direction your company is heading, please contact me in any of the following ways:
